Remember these …

… crab apples earlier in the summer …

… which start off a lovely rosy colour but turn yellow as they ripen….

… became this.

How yellow apples can become this beautiful ruby jelly is a mystery.  Can’t wait to sample it.

The variety is malus golden hornet.  I planted it 8 years ago when it was nothing more than a twig about 5 ft tall.  It never fails to delight, always laden with blossom every spring and apples every autumn.

      Some we eat ourselves, some I sold last year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and the rest I give as gifts to family and friend.
